PSP Countdown

This is the machine that could really pose a threat to the grip Nintendo have on the handheld gaming market, if I worked for Nintendo I would be seriously worried about my job security right now. The PSP is being marketed as a handheld game machine but with the ability to play music, movies and link up via WIFI. You can't held but wonder what directions Sony might take with this..watch out iPod maybe?

Some of the games make me feel quite nostalgic, Wipeout & Ridgeracers both started out as early titles for the PS1 and are due to hit the PSP on it's UK release date. I remember being WOWed by these games on the PS1 and can only hope the PSP has the same WOW factor.

Living in the UK means we have to put up with getting new technology some time after our Far East and US friends, although this can have it's advantages as early teething problems can be ironed out before they reach our distant shores. There have already been rumours circulating about dead pixels on some screens. There's also a lot of speculation about the battery life of the unit, but lets face it how many of us are likely to play a portable unit for longer than 4 hours at a time without being able to plug it into a mains socket? ok so there may be the odd individual who jets of on international long haul flights but if thats the nature of your job I am sure it pays well enough to afford a spare battery!

The estimated date for release is the end of March 2005, I can hardly contain myself. Can you?
